WORLD CHANGE

John Mayer, one of the best new singers nowadays, croons with wonderful guitar that he is waiting on the world to change and that good love is on the way. But in our national politics, what change is coming? And where is good love?

The problem with illegal immigration is building a growing national animus, mainly on the political right -- and efforts of racially-motivated people and groups to promote a cutting of our country’s present birth rate for racial reasons.

There’s a growing nexus between left-wing environmentalists on the one hand, anti-life advocates, and right-wing anti-immigration proponents.

The historic guru of this movement is Garrett James Hardin, professor of human ecology at the University of California at Santa Barbara from 1963 to 1978, a major proponent of cutting population through any means and author of the phrase “nice guys finish last," in summing up his idea of a "selfish gene" concept of life and evolution.

Another guru of the anti-lifers and anti-immigrant cabal is William A. White of Roanoke, Virginia, a self-proclaimed anti-semite white-supremacist whose web site is titled overthrow.com:

George R. McDaniel of Raleigh, North Carolina, is another member of the white-sheet cabal.

McDaniel was a close friend of the late Samuel Francis, an editorial writer at The Washington Times who was fired after he attended a neo-nazi white-supremacist meeting and promoted it in his syndicated column.

McDaniel and White both acknowledged to me in telephone interviews their long connection with the late Sam Francis and Marian Coombs, wife of the managing editor of The Washington Times, who is the impetus and power-behind-the-scenes for all the Washington Times coverage of race, culture, and immigration stories.

Francis and McDaniel were close friends of Thomas Fleming, editor of Chronicles magazine of the Rockford Institute, and Francis B. Coombs Jr., managing editor of The Washington Times, and his wife, Marian, who often wrote for Chronicles, Human Events, The Washington Times, the American Conservative magazine, and other right-wing publications.

White claims to be a close friend and beer-drinking buddy of Robert Stacy McCain, culture editor for The Washington Times, He has said that on his web site and confirmed it to me in a telephone interview. On White’s web site and in a lengthy telephone interview, White acknowledged collaboration with Marian Coombs, the intellectual backer of her husband, the managing editor of The Washington Times.

The personal web sites of Fran and Marian Coombs were both registered, according to Network Solutions, by George McDaniel and Go Daddy Software of Scottsdale, Arizona. So, as I knew as a 21-year national reporter for The Washington Times, they are part of the white-supremacist nexus.

They are:

It’s interesting how over the past few days the personal web sites of Fran and Marian Coombs have been cleansed of any reference to their web-master George McDaniel.

But it is a permanent record that will never be erased:

Linda Chavez, who was President Ronald Reagan’s staff director at the U.S. Civil Rights Commission for the first two years of his first administration and then White House director of public liaison, said of these white-supremacist, anti-minority, and anti-immigration types in a telephone interview:

“These are not the normal bedfellows of normal conservatives, but they have got in the bed with them.”

Chavez was co-founder of U.S. English, having served for many years with union leader Albert Shanker at the American Federation of Teachers.

“The whole conservative movement, with few exceptions, has been sucked in with the anti-natalists, who don’t like babies, and the anti-immigrant crowd who want to restrict legal immigration,” Chavez told me in our telephone interview.

“They flirt with groups like the Hemlock Society” – a leading pro-euthansia group, she told me. "These are not the normal bed-fellows of normal conservatives, but they have got into bed with them on the immigration issue. They want the population of the United States to be half what it now is.”

Chavez said many major conservative groups have fully become “big environmentalists, embracing an ideology similar to that of former Vice President Al Gore.

For example, she said, the conservative Heritage Foundation “with few exceptions has embraced this anti-immigrant drumbeat.”

As one currently reads the news and opinion content of The Washington Times, they have done the same.

On The Times blog site last June 8, managing editor Fran Coombs stated quite clearly his antipathy in a piece titled “Big bang theory”:

“President Bush is sure to get a bounce in the polls from the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, al Qaeda’s head killer in Iraq,” Combs wrote. “Real kudos, of course, go to the U.S. military, which has been much maligned of late in the American media. Way to go, guys. No one should waste a drop of sympathy on the Great Beheader, his “spiritual adviser” and the other al Qaeda stooges sent to Hell by U.S. precision bombs.

“As for those polls, Mr. President, don’t count on the improved numbers to last,” Coombs wrote. “Unless you wake up to the wrong-headedness of your immigration policy, your supporters are still in for a rude surprise in November. Just ask newly elected Rep. Brian Bilbray. His rejection of your amnesty plan caused Sen. John McCain to drop out of a fundraiser but guaranteed Mr. Bilbray a seat in the House. Unless the GOP base is cloned into millions of McCains overnight, the death of Zarqawi is just a momentary bright spot in the Republican Party’s continuing death spiral.”

The blog message on The Washington Times web site was signed, “Fran Coombs, Managing Editor,” who has been publicly anointed by retiring editor-in-chief Wesley Pruden Jr. as his successor. Watch that space as The Washington Times celebrates its 25th anniversary next May 17.

The paper has hemorrhaged editorial talent under Coombs’ management, particularly after he sexually assaulted the paper’s publicist, Melissa Hopkins, in Manhattan, at the time of the 2004 Republican National Convention.

The newspaper also has lost advertising and circulation over the past ten years. The owners can’t be happy.

Coombs, his wife Marian, and Washington Times culture page editor Robert Stacy McCain are all loyal ideological allies of the white-sheet crowd. Bill White’s pieces published by The Washington Times have all appeared on the Page A2 culture page edited by McCain, with approval of  managing editor Fran Coombs.

So reader beware.
