CLINTON-OBAMA VERSUS THOMPSON-CURRY

All right. We’re getting into the heady political season for the 2008 presidential race.

The Republicans are in a mess. The Democrats seem to be circling around Hillary Clinton as their standard-bearer, and Barack Obama will probably end up as her running-mate. It would be a powerful ticket.

On the Republican side, former Senator Fred Thompson, Tennessee Republican, of Watergate and “Law and Order” fame, is surging in the polls, though formally unannounced as a presidential candidate.

But within the GOP right now, Thompson would trounce Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, and all others, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who might have been a powerful contender, has taken himself out of the presidential race.

So as I see it right now, it will be Clinton-Obama as the Democratic ticket versus Thompson and who? I still believe retired Army General Jerry Ralph Curry will be the GOP vice-presidential running-mate. Let’s see if Curry throws his hat into the ring as a presidential contender to mix things up. I have reason to believe he will, but we'll see. People blink, as Colin Powell did some years ago for personal family reasons, and then changed their minds as the family situation got better and the urge to help the good of the order kicked in.

Curry is a proven leader in charge, was Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger’s Pentagon spokesman during the Reagan administration after heading U.S. military advisory missions to the South Koreans, the South Vietnamese, commanding bases in Germany, commander of the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland, military commander of Washington, D.C., just to name a few of his commands. Curry is a man of tough stuff and a nice man to boot with good values and a big heart. He's the stuff of
Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, Teddy and Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry Truman,  Ike Eisenhower, Jack Kennedy. Believe me. Curry is a fighter, proven leader with a good heart. He would be a great leader.

Thompson is a good conservative leader in the mold of Ronald Reagan, has all his beliefs and values, a Senate record that shows he would be a Reaganite president. But he lacks the defense and national security accomplishments needed of a president and can take a page out of the books of Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush who both took on vice-presidential mates who had the experience and stamina on the defense and foreign policy fronts, and in dealings with Congress, to forge very strong administrations. So General Curry would be a huge asset nd partner on Thompson's ticket for the presidency.

Let’s face it: We’re in a huge battle between leftists in America who want the United States to be defeated and regular hard-working Americans and families who do not like being continually downgraded and insulted by anti-American elitists in the media and entertainment industry who support in every way attacks on our culture, history, and religious heritage.

It’s that simple, our own civil war all over again.

As a veteran investigative news reporter with conservative libertarian-with-morality instincts who knows how to get the scoop and weigh both sides of a story, who’s right, who’s wrong, who’s truthful or lying, who’s fun or boring, I can tell you the bottom line: Intolerance.

The left and secularists in our society are intolerant. They do not want the other side from them to have a voice and do everything they can to silence an alternative voice to their views.

On the other hand, people of a conservative mindset, particularly Christian believers, hold to the idea of tolerance taught by Jesus Christ and never judging another person, despite their vices and wrongdoing because it is out of our pay grade.

You see an over-weight person on the street or in the supermarket or somebody with bad teeth: The Christian response must be never to judge these people by the way they look. This person could be Jesus Christ sitting there. We all have our flaws ranging from personal temperament to mental illness and bipolar depression. Judge not lest you be judged. And love your neighbour as yourself. Thus says the Bible. Yet the elite intellectual snobs do not accept that dictum and constantly try to set their own rule of conduct and decorum to override the Christian Bible and tradition.

Get the picture? It’s a continuing culture-religion-social war, and all the continuing loud blatha from people on the left against George W. Bush and what the United States is doing to secure freedom for people in Iraq is simply an effort to distract us from the essential mission of securing what America’s founding fathers secured in the 1700s.

Thomas Jefferson, our first Secretary of State, third president, founder of the University of Virginia and William and Mary College, put it well: “I have sworn Hostility to every form of TYRANNY over the mind of man.”

Where are the leaders today who stand unequivocally for that pledge worldwide? Iraq is only the beginning. The enemies who have sworn tyranny over the mind of man and woman and children are everywhere, and have been since my birth during Hitler's attempt to take over the world. Are we going to let such tyrants yet win? The answer must be no.

We shall select leaders who will carry through the commitmnts to global liberty already set in place. No question. We cannot do less in behalf of the blood already spent over the centuries for individual liberty and economic prosperity for all.

My prediction: When everything shells out and there are two teams vying for support of the American people, it will be Clinton and Obama on the Democrat side versus Thompson and Curry on the Republican side. Watch as the beat unfolds.
