BREAK-UP

When you break up with a dear friend you have grown to love very much and rely upon for support and care, and reciprocally, it hurts terribly. You immediately miss the friend very much, the frequent conversations and visits, and healing will take a long time.

Michael Bolton, in his September 2005 album ’Til the End of Forever (New Studio Recordings), sang Calvin Houston’s and James Andrew Wright’s lovely song:

“When a man loves a woman, can’t keep his mind on nothin’ else, he’d trade the world for the good things found.

“If she’s bad, he can’t see it, she can do no wrong, turn his back on his best friend if he puts her down.

“When a man loves a woman, spend his very last dime just trying to hold on, hold on to what he needs.

“He’d give up all his comforts, sleep out in the rain if she said that’s the way, the way it ought to be.

“Yeah. When this man loves a woman, ohhh, I'd give you everything, I mean everything, I mean everything I got, just trying to hold on to your precious love. Baby, baby please, please, please don’t treat me bad.

“When a man loves a woman deep down in his soul, you know she can bring you such misery.

“If she’s playing you for a fool, well he’s the last one to know, because loving eyes can never see. No.

“When a man loves a woman, I know exactly how it feels, because baby, when a man loves a woman, whoo hoo, when a  man loves a woman, woo hoo, yes, when a man loves truly loves a woman, whoo hoo, he ‘s in love, whoo hoo, woo hoo, when a man really loves a woman.”

When she walks out of your life, it hurts terribly and the ache continues every time you see the pictures and lovely memories flood into your mind. But you have to move on and heal.

For opera fans, hearing Bolton, Luciano Pavarotti, or José Carreras sing “Nessun Dorma” (“No one must sleep”) from Giacomo Puccini’s Turandot is one of the purest forms of expressed devoted friendship.

ITALIAN:

“Nessun dorma. Nessun dorma. Tu pure, o, principessa, nella tua fredda stanza, guardi le stelle che tremano d'amore e di speranza.

“Ma il mio mistero é chiuso in me, il nome mio nessun sapra. No, no, sulla tua bocca lo diro, quando la luce splendera.

“Ed il mio bacio sciogliera il silenzio che ti fa mia.

“Il nome suo nessun sapra. E noi dovrem, ahime, morir. Morir.

“Dilegua, o notte. Tramontate, stelle. Tramontate, stelle. All'alba vincero. Vincero. Vincero.”

ENGLISH:

“None must sleep. None must sleep. And you, too, princess, in your cold room, gaze at the stars which tremble with love and hope.

“But my mystery is locked within me. No one shall know my name. No, no, I shall say it as my mouth meets yours when the dawn is breaking.

“And my kiss will break the silence which makes you mine. No one shall know his name, and we, alas, shall die.

“Vanish, o night. Fade, stars. At dawn I shall win.”

Well, in a break-up, no one wins. Both friends and family members lose. We just need to move on, kiss, make up, figure things out, and thank God who ultimately heals all wounds.
